Richard Foley is a contract application developer living in Munich and working for clients all around mainland Europe. I use a combination of the excellent Perl programming language - usually in an object-oriented style, an RDBMS (SQL database) and the shell on unix and unix-like systems - more or less a LAMP system. My preferred method of operation is via telecommuting, a style of working which can be very productive given the right balance of specifications, milestones and feedback backed by an appropriate version control system, like . In my allegedly copious spare time, alongside helping to raise my family occassionally, I have written a few books, contributed to the Perl community via the usual channels, am a founding member of the YAPC::Europe foundation, etc. and manage to endulge in a little timeout on the side.
